My cat came in with back/hip pain, no fight signs. What happened?

Poor guy. It is highly possible from your description, that Charlie luxated his hip joint (pulled out of the socket). I would highly recommend taking him to your vet to have x-rays done to confirm, have them stabilize the joint, and then they can get him on pet friendly pain meds. Unfortunately there isn't much you can do for him at home, except to confine him to a small room away from any other animals and bring food and water to him if he is having a hard time himself. There are NO safe over the counter pain meds for dogs and cats, especially cats since they are all toxic, so please don't give him any or this will make him very ill. It is best to get him seen by your vet as soon as you can. I do hope that your fur baby Charlie feels better soon! Best wishes and take care.

Hi there. Sorry this happened to Oliver. I really think you need to get him to a vet ASAP. If he is in pain, crying when touched and not walking much on his hindquarters then he needs some pain medication at the very least. He may also need antibiotics if there is wound present you can't see. It is very common for cats, when they get into fights, to have wounds that don't show up until a day or two later when they turn into abscesses. There is no over the counter medication you can give him that are safe. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

I would be worried because Squeaky is clearly in pain, and he could have internal injuries. Unfortunately you cannot give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to cats and are fatal if given. He really should see a vet first thing in the morning. Based on the information you have provided, and the attached pictures, I am also very concerned that Sprinkles may have sustained significant trauma, causing her to be non-weightbearing lame on her left hind leg. Whether she was hit by a car or potentially fell and injured her leg, it sounds like she is in a significant amount of pain. She also looks like she has abraded skin (a wound) on that leg as well, which is at risk of becoming infected. I recommend having her seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible to have her injuries addressed. He/she will perform a full physical exam to localize her pain and determine if she has other, more life-threatening injuries such as damage to her chest or abdomen. X-rays may be indicated if a fracture is suspected. Ultimately, pain medication and antibiotics can be prescribed to help ease her pain and prevent infection. Importantly, NEVER give pain medication that is intended for humans to your pet, as these can be fatally toxic. I hope this is helpful!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Rocky. Is he allowed outdoors at all? I worry that he may have been in a cat fight and the holes are bite wounds. In this case, he would be very painful and not want to use his hind legs. Cats will also stop eating in this case. He would need to see his veterinarian for evaluation of the wounds and medications. If this is not the case, he could have a fly larva known as a cuterebra. In this circumstance, the larva will poke its head up for air. So watch for this to happen. Either way, he will need to see a veterinarian as soon as you are able. In the meantime, keep the area clean and dry. Do not let him lick. I hope this information helps!
