My cat is attacking his tail & hiding after new cat. Is it stress?

He may be experiencing some stress and anxiety from having another cat in the house. You could try Feliway Spray or a diffuser and see if that helps. He is probably just really stressed. It is best if you leave him alone, don't force him to interact or you may traumatize him more. Be sure he has access to food, water and litter box that is close to him. Be sure the house is as quiet as possible. It would be hard to say. If your vet can't find any health issues, I would see if there is another trigger - time of day, location, specific events that happen (are you putting down food first? Could there be a critter in the wall?) or if something new has happened (new person, new pet, etc). This may help you pinpoint a cause which you can then use to adjust behavior as needed.

I would be concerned that Elvis could be painful somewhere or not feeling well. Sometimes they will have a change in behavior if they are painful, have a high thyroid, or even if they have a GI tract or urinary tract infection. I would have your vet do a thorough exam on him to rule these things out. Your vet will be able to determine whether he is painful, perfect a urinalysis, fecal or blood work if needed. If your vet thinks he is normal then I would be concerned about anxiety. You can try feliway diffusers which are cat pheromones that sometimes help to calm them. It doesn't work on everyone. Cats usually become anxious of anything that has changed in their environment like new people, new pets, normal people gone too much, construction in or out of the home, new feral cats outdoors, etc. I hope this helps!

If he is out of it I would worry he is having a seizure and I would recommend video taping it and showing your Vet. If you yelling or trying to play with him makes him stop then it may not be a seizure, it might be boredom. I would start playing with him more and providing environmental enrichment to his life. If he is older then I would get some blood work done and have his blood pressure checked. I am assuming your Vet checked him for pain and fleas. Moving can be very stressful on any species. Cats will sometimes display signs of mis-directed aggression when they are stressed. I would recommend getting Feliway pheromones started asap. These come as plug in diffusers or even collars if the cats will tolerate them. They release calming hormones into the air that people won't smell, but do help relax agitate pets. Give the cats a safe place to retreat to - a room or hideout where they can get away from each other, the dog and people. If possible try to have items from their last home there (a bed or toys). Try to feed the same food, switching it over gradually. I would recommend having several litter boxes in different areas of the house while they are acclimating. If the fights are serious enough you may need to separate the cats into separate areas of the house and gradually reintroduce them to each other. If the behaviours continue or worsen, I would recommend consulting with their veterinarian. There are medications that can help in conjunction with training to decrease behavior problems.
