My cat ate silicone toy pieces. Should I give her a laxative or watch?

I certainly hope that Jolly didn't eat the ball! It can take up to a couple of days for signs to show that she may have eaten the ball. These signs include vomiting, anorexia, diarrhea, lethargy, and constipation. Those indicate an obstruction, which can occur if the ball is too big to pass through the intestines. Because it is a small ball ,there is a chance Jolly can defecate it, and it can take up to 72 hours for that to happen. I would monitor her for the next 72 hours, and if you see any signs of obstruction that I mentioned above, then you need to find a vet to see her right away, even if it means traveling with her. That's because an obstruction is fatal without treatment. Hopefully though, it will pass without problem :-)

Hi and thanks for your request. I would strongly recommend to monitor her for the next 48hours to see if appetite and urination/defecation are normal. There may be some pieces ''on the way out''. Small amount of liquid paraffin (2mls per meal) and a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice would be ideal for the next week.

This history concerns me - I start to get concerned any time a cat skips more than 1 meal, and if Luna is also lethargic and with the history of eating foreign objects, my concern for a foreign body / GI obstruction is very high. I recommend having Luna seen by your vet as soon as possible. Even if they don't think it's necessary to take her to surgery, helping her stay hydrated can do wonders for helping foreign material pass successfully through the GI tract! Unfortunately, we cannot say if the bell will pass or not. I wouldn’t make him vomit as it can actually hurt his esophagus coming back up. I would recommend monitoring the cat and if you notice any vomiting or diarrhea or if he becomes lethargic at all I would recommend bringing him into your regular veterinarian for x-rays. You can always bring them into the veterinarian to have them do an x-ray to see if the bell is actually in his stomach since they should show up on the x-ray. Oh no, Snow! Tinsel and feathers run the risk of causing an intestinal obstruction/blockage by means of a linear foreign body. In these cases, the material gets stuck in the stomach or intestines and essentially causes the intestines to bunch together like an accordion. Sometimes this material can also get stuck under the tongue, so if you can safely open her mouth to look under the tongue, that would be helpful. If you see material under the tongue or if it has been less than two hours since Snow ate the feathers and tinsel, consider taking her to the vet to have vomiting induced. If it has been longer than two hours since the time of ingestion, you can closely monitor her for signs of vomiting, lethargy, and inappetence, as these can indicate an obstruction. If you do see any of these signs, Snow should be seen by her vet immediately because obstructions are a surgical emergency. That said, it is also quite possible that she passes this material in her stool.

Hi there. If Titan is eating and drinking normally, not vomiting, and having regular bowel movements, it should be okay to continue monitoring for now. However, if he stops eating, has repeated episodes of vomiting, or goes more than 48 hours without a bowel movement, I would recommend taking him to the vet for an exam and possible abdominal x-rays, as these can be signs of an intestinal blockage that may need surgery. I would not recommend giving any kind of laxative, as this isn't likely to help - just continue to feed him his normal diet, and monitor to make sure he's pooping.

Just monitor her for the moment; unfortunately strings and any type of linear foreign body can sit in the intestine and stomach for ages before coming out!. As long as she eating fine and drinking ok and passing feces and urine normally and being normal in terms of demeanor and activity level she will be ok and she won't need any check up. You could potentially give her some mineral oil (2mls every meal )like paraffin oil to lubricate the gastrointestinal canal and help to get rid of the strings if there.
