My cat ate a bit of ivy leaves but isn't sick. What should I do now?

English Ivy may cause stomach upset if ingested in small amounts. Larger quantities may disrupt cardiac and neurological function. Coleus can be dangerous due to the essential oil it produces. Even light contact with it may cause skin irritation in pets. If licked, it can cause irritation in the mouth and GI tract. Monitor for lethargy, loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, drooling, ataxia (wobbly gait), dilated pupils, low blood pressure and low heart rate. Seek veterinary attention immediately if any of these symptoms occur.

At worst, you may see some oral irritation, drooling or stomach upset. The plant contains calcium oxalate crystals which are very irritating. If you've seen no symptoms, they are likely not affected. If it happens again, rinse the mouth with cool water for 10-15 minutes and offer a bland diet in small, frequent amounts until any symptoms resolve.

If Mooch has just eaten the leaf (in the last 30-60 min), you should rinse his mouth with water or offer him plenty of water to drink. If he is asymptomatic, you should monitor him at home. If he does not develop any worrying symptoms in the next 2-3hrs, it will mean that is fine. However, if you notice that Mooch is drooling, vomiting or finds it difficult to eat, you should take him to your local vets right away

If you aren't seeing any blisters and Ash is acting normally, then I would just watch him for now. I would not take him into a vet. Should he shows any signs of problems, such as pain, discomfort, loss of appetite, blisters in his mouth, trouble grooming, or lethargy, have him seen by a vet. I hope this helps!

Hello, oleander contains a toxin which affects the hear. Other signs include nausea, vomiting, drooling. However, signs are typically seen within an hour or two after ingestion. If Misty is currently doing ok, then I would continue to monitor her for any evidence of weakness, collapse, lethargy, or vomiting and bring her to your veterinarian if you notice any of the above. Depending on the type of plant, it may or may not cause harm. If you are able to take part of the plant to a local nursery and find out the type of plant it was, this would be helpful. The main things you want to look for are decrease in activity, decrease in appetite, vomiting or diarrhea. Also look in his mouth of any ulcerstions as some plants only cause a local reaction. The majority of the drooling and vomiting symptoms in pets that chew on ficus are related to the irritating effects of the plant's sap. I would expect the symptoms to be present at the start and go away once the sap is cleared. I would recommend that you continue to monitor Atticus for continued vomiting, lethargy, or poor appetite. If they continue through today, he should see a vet. It is unlikely related to the ficus, but I worry about a potential GI obstruction if he ate anything else.
