My cat ate FreshPet dog pate. Is it safe for cats to eat dog food?

It is best to let the dog eat only dog food and the nutritional contents and vitamins are greatly different based on their needs. You can try to feed your cat up high, a counter or laundry room, to keep the dog from reaching it or getting to it. If the puppy gets cat food every now and then, it will not cause any harm, but it should not be its sole source of nutrition

Sweetiepie needs to eat cat food because it has certain amino acids needed for heart health that are not found in dog food. If she gets into it every once in a while, that's fine. Fancy Feast seems to offer a variety of flavors. It's not the best food but its not the worst and it's important she eats. Also, I recommend to have Sweetiepie examined by the veterinarian if you are noticing finicky eating. At her age, kidney disease and other health concerns become more common and finicky eating can be one of the first signs of a problem. I hope this helps.

Since designated puppy food is high in protein, your cat should be fine eating it. It is always better to feed cat food, as cats need different ratios of ingredients. I do not think you should wash your cat at all unless he is contaminated with gooey stuff or poisons. Cats are very proficient in cleaning themselves. If your cat is not cleaning himself properly, he may be ill and would need to be seen by a veterinarian for an exam.

Hello! Cats have higher protein and fat requirements, which is why their food is so much tastier than dog food! It's not a good balanced diet for dogs, so I would recommend that Seibella eats at least 80% formulated dog kibble for her nutritional needs to be met. Hello. Personally, I really like Fresh Pet. Many pets will eat this when they will not touch anything else, & a lot of veterinarians are recommending that cats eat a primarily wet diet vs a dry kibble. Dog food is not formulated for cats nutritional needs, so he really needs to be on cat food. First of all, I would get him seen by your vet to find out why he has lost so much weight and get him started on a treatment plan. Based on his medical condition, it may be necessary to feed him a special diet for whatever is causing his illness. If he doesn't require a special diet, it may be that he prefers wet food now and you may need to offer that primarily and leave dry out for nibbling during the day.

If it had any evidence of mold, he may experience some gastrointestinal upset such as vomiting or diarrhea over the next 24-48 hours. If you notice that he is more lethargic/sleepier than usual, loses his appetite, vomits or has diarrhea, I would have him evaluated by your veterinarian. He may require some symptomatic gastrointestinal support. If he continues to act normally at home (eating, drinking, urinating and passing normal stools), and he is otherwise healthy, I think he should be OK! (And I would definitely throw out that old bag of food!). I hope this is helpful!
