My cat just ate a bee! What should I do and what symptoms to watch?

It is not uncommon for kittens or cats to occasionally eat a bug. As long as she didnt get stung, she should "bee" fine. Monitor for lethargy, loss of appetite vomiting or diarrhea. These are symptoms that should be addressed by your veterinarian.

Bee stings can be serious if the dog happens to be allergic, just like in people - but the vast majority of the time, they don't cause any major problems at all :) Many dogs like to catch bees and swallow them, and I very rarely see any significant issues related to this. If Dutch is acting normal, there should be no cause for concern. Signs of a possible allergic reaction would include facial swelling, difficulty breathing, vomiting, or weakness or collapse. If you see any of these signs, then I would take him to a veterinarian right away. Otherwise, you can just monitor him for the next few hours to make sure everything is okay.

Watch Fluffy for swelling and breathing problems. If that occurs, you will need to take him to a veterinarian right away. If no swelling and breathing trouble occurs, you do not have to do anything. He then just had a nice protein snack!

If that is the case, she may develop signs of breathing difficulties within a few minutes from eating the bug. If that happened, it should be treated as an emergency. If Myla ate the bug a while ago and she looks fine now, there should not be any problems, she will likely digest the bug.

If Bertie just ate a bee you should monitor him for signs of facial swelling and breathing problems. If you notice that his respiration becomes fast, loud and raspy, you should take him to your local vets as an emergency.

An injection near the stomach is odd...I've never seen this type of injection given there. If you didn't see the injection being given there, then it may be something else like another bee sting that is swelling. The antihistamine will usually make them drowsy, so this may explain the change in walking and behavior. The pain medication may also have a similar effect depending on what was given. However, what you are describing is a bit worrying and it would be best to take Ammu back to the vet and just make sure that everything is OK.

Benadryl is an antihistamine that is useful in managing allergic reactions, which in dogs, could include facial swelling, hives or difficulty swallowing and breathing. If Shasta experiences facial swelling or has difficulty breathing or swallowing, she should be taken to an emergency veterinarian immediately, as she likely would require steroids in addition to an antihistamine.
