My cat is anxious, jumpy, and aggressive despite Feliway. What helps?

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I would recommend using the Feliway spray as well and spray the areas where the cats are the most and where they sleep. You can also use a product called NaturVet Quiet Moments calm treats plus melatonin for cats and see if this helps. If you are not having any success and they are still aggressive towards one another, I would recommend discussing this further with your veterinarian as anti-anxiety medications may be the next step. The multi cat diffuser may give you slightly better results but they both will likely help. The diffusers are nice because it’s a constant infusion of the pheromone that occurs even when you are not home. Other things that can help Trixie to feel more calm are to provide climbing opportunities that satisfy her natural instincts. A tall cat tree or shelves mounted to the wall with a bed on top can help some cats feel more secure. Set aside 30 minutes a day for vigorous play as tiring her out may result in less anxiety. Royal Canin also makes a diet called Calm that affects the serotonin levels in the brain and some cats do very well on this diet. If she continues not to do well, medications may help. I would try a Feliway spray, diffuser or collar. It is a pheromone that helps with relaxation and anxiety. There are also supplements for anxiety. Set up separate areas for feeding and two litter boxes so they each have their own space with an area that they both have access to. Usually over time they will adjust if left alone. This takes lots of time and patience to improve. You can try a Feliway pheromone spray or diffuser. That often relaxes cats and reduces their anxiety. If she enjoys grooming brush her for a short time each day. Usually then they will start coming out to get groomed and be with you. The loud noises are hard and there is not much to be done other than act calmly like you are doing. I never force a cat to come out or do do things that make them anxious as this will only worsen the problem. Make sure she has a quiet, private 'safe' place to go. You can give her more playtime with you, use a feliway pheromone diffuser to help her relax and make sure she has a quiet spot to get away from any noisy activity. If she's still not coming around then getting a young kitten may be good. She should enjoy a baby kitten but I wouldn't get a teenage or older cat as it may make her more anxious and then you have two to worry about. He may be experiencing some stress and anxiety from having another cat in the house. You could try Feliway Spray or a diffuser and see if that helps. You could also try Solliquin and see if that helps.
