Why is my anemic cat losing weight, not eating, and high creatinine?

I'm wondering if you mean creatinine, as blood work doesn't measure keratin. The increase in creatinine can indicate kidney issues, and something like kidney failure can cause significant weight loss. Yes, you can give Retchi the deworming treatment but I don't think the chemistry changes are related to any worms.

Without a full history and physical exam report it is difficult to know why they are recommending an ultrasound which is usually used to track changes in size or texture of internal organs, fluid build up and/or tumor growth. I recommend you contact your vets office and speak to the particular vet involved in order to get a better understanding of exactly what they are trying to identify or rule out and this will allow you to make a more informed decision as to the risks and benefits of anesthesia for an older cat with evidence of kidney issues. A full assessment of the entire blood work and any other current symptoms would be needed to discuss in any more detail and your vet should release these to you for a second opinion should you not feel the situation is adequately explained when you speak to them directly

Renal failure often causes cats to lose weight. The waste products that build up in the blood because the kidneys can't properly eliminate them cause nausea and gastritis (inflammation in the stomach) and sometimes even ulcers in the mouth. Talk to your vet about trying some medications to manage these conditions - either omeprazole or famotadine are often helpful, as well as the anti-nausea drug Cerenia. Also the drug mirtazipine can be used to help stimulate his appetite. Unfortunately it sounds like he has multiple problems that may be difficult to manage concurrently. I'd also consider running a bacterial culture of the nasal discharge to try to focus the antibiotic therapy and ensure that an effective drug is being used.

Hi, I don’t think it is possible to diagnose a disease from these blood tests and without any clinical history or symptoms and a physical examination. It does seem like Russia has anaemia and increased white blood cells on her haematology blood tests, her biochemistry shows mild azotaemia with an increase in both urea and creatinine. This could indicate kidney disease. Has Russia had any urine test ? I would run a urine test,sg dipstick, protein creatinine ratio and start intravenous fluids. More tests are available to evaluate renal functions but I am not sure if these can be done in Egypt. Hope this helps.

BUN, Amylase, magnesium and CPK all can become altered with renal impairment. The weight loss may be due to muscle wastage due to chronic renal disease or something else may be going on. I would consider having Tigger's urine specific gravity checked and also send out an SDMA test to see if the kidney's are the main problem. At 14.5 years of age, renal disease would be high on my list of causes of these symptoms. Other problems such as cancer and inflammatory diseases may be the cause of the symptoms as well. I would recommend having your vet pursue additional testing to get more of a definitive answer on whether or not the kidneys are impaired and if not, coming up with further recommendations on diagnostics and treatment. A serious hookworm infection could lead to anemia, but your vet could have checked his feces for signs of hookworms if they felt that was the cause of his symptoms. You can ask the vet to do this for Sonny. but I would also be concerned if they may have found a small mass in his abdomen. You can do further tests such as an ultrasound, x-rays, or an abdominal exploratory surgery. See if the vet has other options for him. I'm very sorry he's so sick.
