My cat attacks my dog. Will declawing stop cat aggression towards dogs?

The first thing I would suggest is to have Cleo checked out by your veterinarian. Certain medical conditions including hyperthyroidism can cause aggression of this nature. If a medical cause is ruled out and this is a behavioral issue, you can try to use a Feliway diffuser or collar to help keep Cleo calm when she is around you. Absolutely. Declawing a cat is traumatic surgery to begin with, but in an older cat it can be even more so. When you declaw a cat, you are removing the last digit of the toe. Think of your finger, and think of removing the last knuckle on each of your fingers. This is what they do when they perform this surgery. They are not just trimming the claws off. There are many complications that can happen, from lifelong pain, regrowth of the bone tissue which can cause deformation and lifelong behavioral issues. Many cats who are declawed become biters and stop using their litter boxes due to the pain in their feet. There are many other options other than declawing your cat such as soft paws, or using scratching devices or training options. I would highly suggest watching the movie The Paw Project before you consider this procedure for your cat. I've been a Tech for over 14 years now. I have cats who have been declawed and I've seen the terrible effects it can have. Check the statistics of cats in shelters. Most cats who are surrendered to shelters are declawed because of the behavior issues they developed after they were declawed. There are always other options.

The best thing way to get him to stop scratching is by getting scratching posts and encouraging the cat to use them. To make friends with the car, sit on the floor with your hand extended and treats in your hand. move slowly and speak softly. It will also be best if you are the one to feed the cat. This will help him gain your trust. When he is near you and responding well, you can pet him gently, scratching his head of behind his ears. Keep it short, do this multiple times a day and the cat should come around. Don't yell at him or make sudden movements. Yelling will not help him scratching things. You can remove him from the furniture and place him on the scratching post to direct his scratching there. Good luck I hope this helps!

So sorry that you're having to rehome Kitty! This situation should be just fine - most declawed cats can do virtually all of the things that cats with claws can do, and front claws don't play a major role in self defense or the ability to fight or communicate with other cats. Many owners have one or more declawed cats in the same house as cats with claws, and I have never known this to cause any issues at all :)

It sounds like you have a lot of things going on with Cecile. Cats can have aggression for many different reasons, with territorial or fear based aggression being the top two, but many other common causes. It can be hard to figure out what the cause is and even harder to start to reduce the aggression. Without having more information, I would recommend two things: - Pay a lot of attention to when the aggression happens and work on avoiding any triggers you can identify. - Talk with your vet about anti-anxiety medication to see if that helps with all of his issues. If you have access to a veterinary behaviorist, I would definitely recommend a consultation, but i don't know of the availability in Indonesia.

If he is attacking you and not trying to play then he should be confined, you should always keep him up to date on Rabies, and you should discuss behavior modification drugs with your Vet, like prozac. I would get it in a liquid form you can put in his food. I would purchase feliway diffusers for around the house, one should go in his room. You can play with him but as soon as he gets over stimulated you need to stop and walk away. If he starts to get aggressive and is coming towards you squirt him with a water bottle. It is inappropriate behavior for a cat to attack you and injury you that badly. You need to strongly consider if this is the kind of relationship you want from a pet. That is a tough situation. I'm sorry poor Juno is getting picked on! Try to make "safe" places for her where Bitty isn't allowed, with food and water in those places as well, so that she doesn't feel stressed for "resources." Keep lots of litter boxes around to avoid Juno developing a bad habit of going outside of the box, as sometimes a "bullied" cat gets jumped on the way to the box an then starts to avoid litter boxes all together. This is probably more of a "Bitty" issue, and meds may be helpful. Some cats do very well on fluoxetine, so you might want to talk to your vet about that. Be sure that Bitty is getting plenty of opportunity to "stalk and hunt" an appropriate target (i.e. toys) as well.
