What can I give my cat for acid reflux if special food isn't working?

Indigestion / reflux can be a life long problem so Pepcid AC may need to be given for the rest of Darby's life. Changing food to a hydrolyzed protein diet such as Hills Z/D or Royal Canin Ultamino may also help reduce the reflux as it may be dietary related. I hope this helps! We do sometimes dose Famotodine twice daily in some patients, and normal recommended doses are 0.5 to 1.1 mg per kg of body weight every 12-d24 hours. The recommended dose/frequency can vary if the pet has underlying kidney disease, so I would recommend discussing any dosing changes with your cat's vet.

A better choice for an antacid would be Pepcid. You can discuss it and get a dose based on Bella's weight from your veterinarian. Legally, we are prohibited from telling you to give it and providing a dose without a physical exam and a VPCR (Veterinarian-Patient-Client Relationship). The bland diet is definitely a good idea. Poor Gizmo! I do not recommend to make any changes without speaking with your regular veterinarian but I think trying something different is a good idea since Gizmo is still having problems. You may try the Omeprazole if your vet thinks it may help. Best of luck.

To answer your question directly, omeprazole (Prilosec) would be the one to use. It would be a way to heal ulcers. I cannot honestly say that stomach ulcers are not that common in cats. I strongly believe there is something else underlying. I would recommend an abdominal ultrasound as the next step and/or a barium x-ray series. I already answered this question. You need to use an oral antacid medication. There is nothing else you can give to stop stomach acid. If you don't want to use the medication then feed the dog smaller, more frequent meals so his stomach does not stay empty for too long.
