My cat has a 103 fever after vet stress. Should I worry?

The temperature itself isn’t an emergency, but it is definitely a fever. If he goes outdoors I would start feeling all over for an abscess from a fight. I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian soon, but as long as there are no other clinical signs such as difficulty breathing etc then I think having him seen by your veterinarian tomorrow is appropriate. That is a nirnak temperature for cats! It can go up to 102 without being considered a fever. If he is eating and drinking well then I would monitor him for any changes. He may have over done it and just need a rest. If he is not back to normal after 24 hours then I would get him checked.

I strongly recommend getting your cat seen by your vet as soon as possible. Cats can sometimes get fevers with no known origin and it makes them not want to eat. A cat cannot go more than a couple days without eating before they develop liver damage. Your cat may need fluids and supportive care in order to lower his temperature back to normal and support him until his appetite returns.

This temperature is slightly below normal. Normal temp is 37.7 to 38.8. We can sometimes see the body temp be a bit below normal when their blood circulation is less not as good as it should be — most often we see this this due to heart disease or dehydration. If he is very dumpy and lethargic (which is what I assume you mean by “lifeless”) and recently vomited as well, please take him to your vet. They may recommend blood tests and possibly xrays. Treatment will depend on what they find on exam and any testing.

It depends on how high Al's fever is at the moment. A cat's normal temperature is between 101-102.5F. Take his temperature rectally, and if it's above 103F, he will need to see a vet immediately. Should it be normal or between 102.5-103F, then he can wait until the morning to see the vet.

I am sorry to hear that Meaw isn’t feeling well. A normal temperature for a cat is around 100-102 F. A fever could absolutely make her lethargic. Poor Butterscotch! 103F is certainly a fever, but it's not excessively high. It's also good that he is eating and drinking as normal. I certainly hope that he will recover, and take faith in the fact that he is eating and drinking. If he was extremely ill, he would not be eating or drinking at all. Give him his medications as prescribed by the vet, and continue to monitor him. Hopefully, he feels better soon :-)
