Can a new blind cat infect my deaf cat or will they get along?

I would discourage from using him as breeding stock since his infection was so severe as a kitten. But to answer your question, he should be able to breed if he can find the female and mount correctly. This may take practice and a few tries but it would not affect his fertility level

A head tilt in a kitten often indicates a severe ear infection that affects the middle and inner ear. This could definitely cause her to go deaf in that one ear, but she wouldn't be expected to be completely deaf. However, it is suspicious that she didn't react to the vacuum. It is possible that she has a hereditary defect (more common in white cats) that is causing her to be deaf. In either case, it's best to have her evaluated by a veterinarian. I'm glad you are doing your homework before bringing new fur babies into the situation. Most shelters will routinely deworm their pets and test for leukemia and FIV. So you definitely want to make sure these treatments/tests are run prior to adopting the new kittens. Its not unusual for new cats and kittens to break with upper respiratory infections within the first 2 weeks of being adopted. Herpes virus is very common in cats (some estimate 80% of cats carry the virus) and it comes out in the stress related to being in a shelter and being rehomed. Now, this is not going to happen to every cat/kitten but its not unusual. Therefore, your best chance to avoid this would be to get a cat/kitten that has been kept in a foster home. It will likely still have herpes but the environment should be less stressful, therefore less risk of the virus becoming active. Keep the new pet separated for 2 weeks. That way if it does have an outbreak, you will at least have it contained. You could also put your cats on 500mg of lysine twice daily to help booster their immune system. It really depends. Stress and underlying illness (in both cats) can cause a weakening of the immune system which may lead to secondary illnesses taking hold. That said, it would be a good idea to make sure the new cat's health issues are managed and not currently flaring to decrease the chances of spread. Taking a slow approach to introductions (giving each cat their own space, using pheromone diffusers, separate litter and food access) can also help to reduce stress and reduce the chances of spreading illness. I would make sure both cats are healthy enough for the potential stressor by talking to the vet that is treating them. From there, formulating a slow introduction plan, sanitizing any shared spaces, and monitoring for any signs of illness (sneezing, fever, loss of appetite, etc) can help catch early illness and reduce the potential of any problems.

I am sorry to hear of your loss, some dogs will never acclimatise to cats and will act as a predator -prey species regardless of age or infirmity. I would not recommend another cat or kitten as he is likely to attempt to attack again.

If you see some discharge in her nose, wipe it away. Ask your veterinarian if the medicine he gave you for the diarrhea is also working for an upper respiratory infection. If not, you may have to get antibiotics from him. You may have to bring Teena back to the vet if you find more problems. But you also have to give the medication time to work. And I suggest you give her lots of love. She can live very well being blind, cats can get used to that. They have their whiskers and whiskers on the legs to find their way around.

The best way to check for deafness is to snap your fingers behind Alice's head. You must make sure she does not know you are approaching her, that you do not touch any of her hair and that a breeze is not created that may move her fur. If she doesn't react, then you know that she is deaf. If that area on her cornea is new or if the eye shows any inflammation or squinting, you should have it checked out by her veterinarian. Cats can get scars, cornea dysplasia and a few other conditions that may fit your description. When in doubt, have it checked out. A Feliway diffuser or Royal Canin Calm diet food may help Alice to have less anxiety in general and you may consider trying them.
