My adult cats used to cuddle foster kittens. Why did they stop?

I don't think you are doing anything wrong! I think it's somewhat common for cats to act very differently in a shelter situation than at home. Sometimes this means that a cat will be fearful or aggressive in the shelter but sweet in a home situation, but it can also mean that a cat seems more affectionate when stressed. Kittens also tend to be more affectionate and tolerant than older cats, so her increased age might be playing a role as well. You may want to try to find another way to spend time with her (like playing or brushing) rather than trying to hold her or snuggle with her.

With the kitten to keep him amused, the toys may not be as exciting as they once were, after all, you got him a living, breathing toy to play with. Leave the toys available, make sure they both have perches and cat trees and places to scratch and look out the windows, but don't worry too much if it's a while before he plays with them. You may try a different kind of toy than what he has, maybe a wand toy with feathers so you can play with him, or some foam or mylar balls that crinkle and he can carry around, just to see if you can entice him to play with you again.

Congratulations on your new babies! I adopted brother and sister kittens a few years ago. My male also displayed this behavior on his sister (as well as one of the dogs), but that behavior had improved by the time he was 6 months old. There isn't anything inherently abnormal about the behavior, and it's really only a problem if the female decides it's a problem, so I don't know that I would worry about it. I suspect that it will decrease quite a bit as he gets older and more settled in your house. The only other caveat that I will give you is that some cats will also do that on (especially wool) blankets and sweaters to the point that they chew/suck a hole in the fabric, so be on the lookout for that behavior. Some cats are just very loving and social. If he's now neutered he's likely not feeling the "urge" to be a father, but it could be that he just still likes cuddling and snuggling stuffed animals or even pets. If he really likes kittens or baby animals, looking into becoming a foster family for litters of kittens at your local shelter may help with his urge to nurture while helping give care to a litter until they can find a forever home. As long as he isn't being destructive or doesn't seem stressed out by it, I wouldn't be too worried. But if he seems stressed, painful or has any signs of illness, a vet checkup to rule out any issues is always a good idea.

It likely has nothing to do with you and is more likely her personality. Often, these shelter kittens come from feral, or semiferal conditions where they learn from their mothers to be wary of people. They can definitely make good progress with forced socialization as a kitten, but when they gets past 12 weeks, they are pretty set in their socialization. Also, some cats are simply not cuddly cats no matter where they were born. It's possible that Tessa will learn to like cuddles more as time goes on, but I wouldn't expect her to completely turn around at this age. As long as you are not doing anything that scares her, or makes her uncomfortable, then this is not your fault. If you keep showing her love and affection when she is around, then she will likely make more progress with being cuddly. I hope that helps and all is well with Tessa.

IT can be common for two cats to get along sometimes and not other just like children. The cats are working together to figure out perfect harmony in there environment. I would not be concerned unless you notice abnormal urination/defecation or you feel like the two cats are constantly fighting. IF they are having occasional disagreements that can just be normal pet behavior. If you feel the younger cat has a lot of energy I would recommend trying to increase play by hiding toys and treats around the house. Hope that helps
