Does Activyl spot-on for cats treat ear mites or all flea stages?

As long as it is a cat approved product and not a dog product an the wright ranges are correct then it is fine to use. A small amount of cats have an allergic reaction to any topical product where there can be hair loss at the application site but if this has never happened before then it is unlikely to happen now

You'll want to be sure to the environment the Pets are in has been treated too. The fleas will die after they've bitten the Pet. This helps to kill the adult fleas. You may be finding fleas from the eggs that were laid at the time of application who are now growing into maturity. If there are many, you'll want to treat the house and yard and visit your local Veterinarian to discuss other options. For the ears, if you see any redness or inflammation you'll want to visit your local Veterinarian as soon as possible. They may have a yeast or bacterial infection that is causing discomfort.

If your vet gave you the ear drops for the mites then I would follow their instructions. If a vet didn't give you the ear drops, do not use them. Pyrethrins are toxic to cats. Do not use any shampoo on a cat that doesn't say specifically on the label that it can be used in cats. Frontline is safe in cats but I would suggest using revolution since Revolution gets ear mites. Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Sweetie. Unfortunately Zymox Otic HC contains enzymes and some hydrocortisone. It will help with itching, inflammation, and pain but will not treat ear mites. I would advise letting your vet take a look at Sweetie after getting a thorough history. They can then advise some diagnostic tests to evaluate what is going on with the ears. They can do an ear smear where they take some of the ear discharge, put it on a slide, and examine it under the microscope. Ear mites, bacteria, yeast, and foreign bodies can all cause ear infections/ear problems. Ear mites are contagious to all pets in the household so it's important to diagnose and treat that appropriately. There are topical flea/tick products that also treat ear mites and there are topical ear medicines which can address a variety of ear problems. Good luck with Sweetie.

You may want to consider treating the ear mites with a different medication which is applied to the base of the neck instead of inside the ears. This product is called Revolution and is a prescription medication you can get from your veterinarian that can be used to treat ear mites in cats. Might be a better alternative in Muffin's case. The best options to treat ear mites are either revolution spot on or advantage multi spot on, both are prescription anti flea medications but their effect on ear mites is much better than any of the over the counter products.

I can give you a flea treatment program for Elmo. First, I would give him Capstar. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas within 30 minutes. Then follow up with Revolution. It kills fleas and ear mites, and you put it on the back of his head. This is a treatment that has to be used once a month. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash his bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. I hope this helps!
