Can my 5-month-old outdoor kitten survive and live on its own outside?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 4 months and 20 days old

My five month old outdoor kitten go outside from the roofside very often even though he don't go so far just wandering around neighbours's houses, because his mother visits him and brings him food at our home. But can he go far and live on its own? Can a five month old kitten live on its own??

Hello,

A five month old kitten should be able to catch food for himself and live on its own. Kittens can become independent as early as four months old in the wild.

I hope this is helpful! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
