Is my zinc oxide sunscreen safe for my new pet bird to be around?

Unfortunately, there are no FDA approved sunblocking products for cats. Use caution when choosing a pet sunblock. Avoid products with zinc oxide, PABA (para aminobenzoic acid), or octyl salicylate. These are toxic to cats. Consider protective suits or clothing for pets. Given that Dexter was in a pool, any sunscreen that was in there would have been diluted by the water. In addition, it sounds like if he ingested any sunscreen, it would have only been a very small amount. At most in this case, you may see some stomach upset but it's not likely. I do not think you need to take him into the vet in this case, and you do not need to worry about zinc poisoning. I hope this helps.

I would avoid using any type of insecticide on or around your bird. This could be potentially dangerous for him and could cause respiratory issues. If the insect population is severe you may want to move Ringo inside for the summer or to an area that has less insects. Aerosol is bad for birds, but only if it's used in close-quarters. If you are in a separate room when using the product and the door stays closed, then there is little to no chance it will be a problem for your bird.

Hi, yes I would definitely recommend to get some sun cream and you can try a sun cream for cats called Dermascent on Amazon UK or use baby suncream which is fragrance free and zinc free (I think I have used one from Boots before). Hope this helps !

You and containing Teflon or polytetrafluoroethylene are toxic to birds when used at home in the same room. If you will be using cookware with Teflon, then it would be best to separate Ringo to another room with a shut door so as to avoid the smoke. Even then, Ringo would be at risk of having toxicity from the Teflon. Look at the link below for more information. She should be fine as it was only a tiny amount, so I wouldn't worry too much. However, if your budgie has dry legs I would be worried about a mite infection with knemedicoptes, it causes roughness in the leg scales. You can treat the mites with spot in treatment such as xeno.
