How to trim my biting Indian Ringneck's nails without her panicking?

If nails growing long rapidly, this could be an indication of a liver disease, so a veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. If she isn't picking at it or holding the foot up all the time, it likely does not hurt her. The nail does look a bit long. You can use a nail clipper to clip the point off. Avoid the pink area (or quick). This is the blood supply and it will hurt and bleed if you clip into it. Wrap her gently in a wash cloth and expose her feet to clip the nails. She will scream and holler but you can do one foot at a time with a rest in between. Concrete perches can help promote healthy nails and feet.

Thanks for reaching out about Muthu. Yes you can use small fingernail clippers to just take off the tips, or use a fingernail file/Emory board to dullen them. You might want to have Quick Stop of other nail coagulant available. Be aware there are other problems that can cause self-damage, and if suspected a veterinary visit is recommended. Good luck.

I’m sorry this is happening. I know it can be pretty frustrating for you. The best this to do is work with him very slowly and have lots of patience. It will take time for him to begin to trust you. The best way to gain his trust is by working with him slowly and using small pieces of his favorite treat as a reward for interacting with you. First start by giving him a treat when you approach him/open the cage door, then, once he is comfortable with this, try to pet him with one finger, then continue increasing your interactions with him along these lines. I think what you are doing at this time is great. The more you work with him like this the more he will begin to trust you. If he is hurting you when biting you then I would stop the behavior. However, if it is just a small nip to see how you react then I think it’s ok to let the behavior continue. Whenever you a handling him use his favorite treats/snacks so he will learn that by interacting with you he gets a positive reward. I hope this helps. Trim her nails anytime holding her is uncomfortable. It is never recommended to trim the beak at home. If you've never trimmed bird nails, have your veterinarian show you the first time. You can place a mineral block and chew toys in the cage to keep the beak pared down.

Unfortunately there is nothing you can after, but only before and during nail clipping. Reinforce positive attitude with treats (so if he stays quiet during clipping) is the key.
