Trim her nails anytime holding her is uncomfortable. It is never recommended to trim the beak at home.
If you've never trimmed bird nails, have your veterinarian show you the first time. You can place a mineral block and chew toys in the cage to keep the beak pared down.

Julie's beak and nails should be trimmed only as often as necessary. In theory, if she is using her feet plenty on a rough surface and given plenty of items on which to grind her beak, she may rarely (or in some cases never) require either to be trimmed. In most cases, I see birds for beak and nail trims anywhere from 1-4 times a year depending on husbandry and situation. I like to use a Dremel or grinding tool in order to get the nail and beak smooth. While some birds react badly to the noise, most can tolerate it for short spurts of time.

She will scream and holler but you can do one foot at a time with a rest in between. Concrete perches can help promote healthy nails and feet.

Follow directions for application on the container. Some sprays can be used directly on the bird (avoiding the eyes, nose and mouth), others cannot. Clean and sanitize her cage, bowls, perches and toys. Discard anything that cannot be sanitized. Change the cage paper or substrate daily. Provide a mineral block, pumice stone or cuttlebone to maintain beak length. Your avian veterinarian can trim the beak if necessary. Concrete or textured perches can also be used as they promote healthy feet as well as provide natural beak trimming opportunity.

Your bird will probably need to have the nails trimmed about every 8-12 weeks. The toe in the picture does look a little abnormal but it is probably not because of the nail.
