I found a cracked egg with a baby bird. Is it too late to save it?

You should take it to a wildlife rescue, but I am afraid it will likely die. You can try warming it up in a shoe box with a warm water bottle (or put warm water in plastic water bottle. But it is probably not savable. This is "survival of the fittest". Nature is cruel.

The eggs will only hatch if they have chicks in them, ie were fertile. This would only be possible if your female was with a male. Usually the eggs should hatch after 18 full days of incubation. You should inspect the egg with the crack. The chick may be too weak to open the shell and you may have to help by opening the crack a bit. and see if the chick is still alive. If so you can open the egg more if the chick is not able to open it by itself.

If it hasn't been too long, you can take it back to where you got him to see if his nest and mother is still there, which would be best case scenario. Otherwise, it may take him some time to learn to fly on his own and you'll have to wait until his flight feathers grow fully. His best chances will be to stay with his parents. If you can see where the nest is, you may briefly pick him up to place him back in the nest. Most birds do not actually have a very good sense of smell, so your scent won't cause a problem - however, your presence will frighten the parents away. If you cannot return him to the nest, the best course of action depends on how old he is. If he's got feathers and can hop, he's probably a fledgeling who is learning to leave the nest and you should leave him alone. If he's just starting to get his feathers and seems bright (can lift his head and look around), make sure he's in a safe spot (you can make a little nest on the ground with a clean towel in a small box - but don't move him far from where you found him, so his parents can find him there too) and see if the parents come to feed him. If you're convinced he's on his own, or if he's too little to have any hope of surviving on the ground (even if the parents stop by to feed him), then I recommend finding your closest wildlife rehab location and calling to see if they'll take him. Nature can be very cruel. And unfortunately, especially in the bird world, survival of the fittest is the rule. Sometimes chicks who are not thriving are sick or otherwise underdeveloped. The parents often instinctively know this. Also, the parents are less likely to care for their chicks when they have been touched by human hands. While I am certain you have the best of intentions, feeding the chicks and taking them in could possibly make matters worse.

Baby birds are not usually born with feathers so that would be unlikely that you would see feathers within the egg, however viable eggs tend to start off clearish and then become more opaque as they age. You can also hold them up to a candle or light source (carefully as they are fragile) to see if there is anything inside. If they are not sitting on the eggs at all, the eggs may not be viable, the parents may be too young or inexperienced. You can attempt to incubate the eggs yourself if they are viable, however if they are not, simply removing them and ensuring your birds have adequate diets and a calcium supplement can help encourage them to lay more eggs.

Providing heat and humidity support are very important. Concerns are over some underlying disease (bacterial, viral, developmental) and that is why hen kicked it out of the nest. A veterinary visit might be needed to assess and determine if antibiotics might be needed. Good luck.
