My baby lovebird is sick and struggling to breathe. Will he live?

With the signs of both heavy breathing and abnormal droppings, I would be concerned that Albert is sick. He may also be stressed by his new environment but that doesn’t typically cause the extent of changes as what you are describing. I would recommend having Albert evaluated by a veterinarian. Please collect some of the droppings and take them with you to the visit, if possible. The feces can be evaluated for parasites or abnormal bacterial populations. They may recommend treatments for Albert, depending on what is found. I hope that gives you a place to start, and good luck!

If Borah is panting heavily and has stopped eating or drinking, it may indicate that he is feeling unwell or has an underlying illness. Removing him to a hospital cage away from other birds, keeping him warm, and providing easy access to food and water may help, however if he is having a very hard time breathing or is refusing to eat or drink at all, seeking veterinary care immediately is best to rule out issues such as illness, infection, or injury causing his problems.

I'm sorry that your bird is so ill. This is a definite respiratory emergency. Could be an inhaled toxin like from Teflon or smoke oor a serious infection. Your bird needs heat, oxygen and ER care. Keep warm and upright until you can get to the vet. Do not try to give the bird anymore to eat or drink. Good luck with your sweet baby.

Based on the symptoms you are describing I would be concerned that the bird is either not getting enough nutrition or that he has aspirated some of the food and now is developing pneumonia. My best recommendation for you is to have your bird examined by an avian veterinarian. If your bird did aspirate he will need some antibiotics to help with the infection.
