My pigeon laid an egg and has diarrhea for a week. Is this normal?

Diarrhea can be caused by a wide number of things, so finding the underlying cause is important to treating it. While changing the diet may help, other issues such as parasites, illness, infection, etc, should be ruled out as well. As for diet, removing any extra treats such as fruits and veggies can help firm up stool if too many are being given (the higher water content can cause loose stool.) Feeding a diet specific to pigeons, either a commercial food or a variety of seeds and insects, can help ensure proper nutrition. Treating for any parasites and making sure to keep the cage clean may also help. If you have a bird that is very ill, separating him from any other birds you own can also help if there is a spreadable illness causing symptoms. If at home care doesn't help, then you will need to try and find a clinic in your area so your bird can be treated and any medication such as an antibiotic given to help Sheephony feel better.

Birds can get diarrhea from a number of causes, including stress, a poor diet, intestinal parasites or an infection. My guess is this may be stress related due to the egg laying. Have you changed her diet lately or given any new foods? A change in diet can also cause diarrhea. So can fruits or vegetables that haven’t been washed well to remove pesticides. Diarrhea can also be a sign of something more serious like kidney, liver or pancreatic diseases. Birds with diarrhea that doesn’t clear up within 24 hours need to be seen by the veterinarian so the problem can be diagnosed. Take Zelda in right away if you see blood in the droppings or she seems to be straining or having abdominal pain. If you do need to take Zelda to the vet, be sure to take a fecal sample with you so your veterinarian can analyze it. Bring the paper lining her cage so the veterinarian can check several samples. Any bird that is laying eggs need to have additional nutrition. This mostly means increased levels of calcium, protein and the fat-soluble vitamins-vitamin A, E, D3 and K from a maintenance diet. A veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. If can not stand, remove perches and provide a soft towel on which to sit. If this isn’t correct, please repost your question. Watery droppings can be loose poop, but it can also be increased urine. Since Blue just laid eggs, she may be stressed, which can result in an increase in waterin the droppings. This should improve within a few days of her laying the eggs. If things don’t improve, there may be something else going on. This can include problems with her kidneys or infectious diseases (such as bacteria). If the droppings don’t improve, I would recommend that Blue is taken to a veterinarian for evaluation. They can take a close look at her and the droppings and can look at a sample under the microscope. From there, they can make treatment recommendations. Unfortunately, it would be hard to say without an exam. It's possible that she injured the leg, has an issue with poor nutrition if she's not leaving the nest to eat enough, or there is something else ongoing. Making sure she's eating and drinking, and checking the leg for injuries is a good first step. If you suspect an illness or problem, a vet visit is needed to treat it. Pigeon eggs should also hatch in about 20 days, so if it's been longer than that and not hatched, it is likely not viable and should be removed so that she can get back to eating and drinking normally.

A veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. The birds should be separated prior to your veterinary visit, so you can monitor appetite. She is probably drinking water. I am sure you are not looking at her 24/7 so I would assume she is drinking when you are not watching. If she is not drinking or eating well then she is probably sick. She may have a vitamin/mineral deficiency from laying the eggs.
