My parrot holds its perch with its beak and won't move. What's wrong?

Rosie is probably very ill, but unfortunately i couldn't tell you what is wrong based on these very general symptoms, which is often the case with birds you will need to take her to an avian vet where a blood test and faecal exam will be done to determine what is the cause of the disease before it can be treated. i would not recommend taking her to a vet that is not an avian specialist, they are not likely to be able to help and will probably end up referring you anyway, try to look on the internet where is the closest avian vet specialist and give them a call, they will tell you to bring her as soon as you can.

Unfortunately, those are all very vague symptoms of illness that can be caused by any number of things including infections, diseases, parasites, malnutrition, etc. It would be best to bring Mitthu to your local vet for a complete exam to try and find out what is wrong. They may suggest additional tests such as bloodwork or an X-ray to help find the problem. In the meantime, keeping him in a warm hospital cage that is separated from any other birds and with easy access to food and water in shallow dishes with low perches may help some until he can be seen by a vet.

There are a lot of reasons why a bird may have trouble perching including nails that need trimming, perches that are the wrong sizes (usually too small or narrow), muscular or neurologic issues, age, deformities, illness, etc. It is always a good first step to schedule a vet checkup and rule out any more serious causes first. You may also want to add in some larger perches where he doesn't have to curl his toes all the way around as it may help with balance. However, If your bird is unmoving and seems very lethargic and this has been ongoing for several hours or the entire day/several days, it could be a sign of illness.
