My parrot only eats human food from my mouth. Is this safe or healthy?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Female | 3 years old | 0.6 lbs

I have a parrot she is absolutely wonderful but she would prefer to eat only what I eat and if it's fed to her out of my mouth or for my lips is this okay she's been doing it for quite a while but she waits for me to eat so she will eat and there's not really eat her seed and her Premier mix

Hi and thank you for your question,
It is best not to feed Carino mouth to mouth. This is because of the different bacteria (and sometimes fungi) that people and parrots have in the saliva, and also because it makes her see you as her partner, which may cause her in the future to lay eggs. This can lead to all sorts of serious problems and is best avoided.
Regards
