My parrot had breathing issues, eye is closed. What should I do?

Hello! Sorry for my bad English. A week ago my parrot had severe breathing problems (leaning her head towards the back), she was making clicking noise when inhaling and had her right eye closed, all the time. I gave her a daily steam infusion with TeaTree essential oil and within three days the breathing problem disappeared, but the problem with the eye is still present. After some research I decided to give her enrofloxacin in her drinking water. I don't know what else to do, please help me.

Antibiotic treatment may be the right choice considering that a possible cause of the signs you described might be an upper respiratory tract infection. In addition I would recommend having her checked if the antibiotic treatment is not sorting any effect in 7 days time as another type of infection could be present (Chlamydia for example).

What should I do if my parrot's eye is closed and he won't eat?

Thanks for reaching out about Coco. Keeping the eye closed could be the result of a trauma, infection, inflammation and other conditions. A veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. If not eating or drinking and weak, a veterinary exam is even more important, and quickly. Providing heat support in the 80-85 F range can give some comfort but is not a treatment. Good luck.

Thanks for reaching out about Poco. Even though Amoxicillin is a good antibiotic, it doesn't treat everything and often does not treat many of the bacterial that cause respiratory concerns in birds. Popcorn is suffering from an eye infection, possibly linked to an upper respiratory infection too. you will need to take him to an avian vet ASAP in order to get it checked and treated, he will probably need antibiotic eye drops and oral antibiotics.

Why is my budgie picking feathers and has closed or squinting eyes?

These signs could be compatible with a mites infestation and possibly an upper respiratory tract infection/inflammation. Eyes squinting could be related to it as well as consequences of conjunctivitis or tear duct inflammation. I would recommend a check up to determine underlying cause of it and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed.
