My parakeet bled in new cage. Is this normal? What should I do?

We just got a new bigger cage for oyr parakeet and put all the same items in new cage but seen drops of blood on bottom of cage and notice he had a drop of blood on his side but watched him and it doesnt seem to be bleeding anymore. Is there something else I should do.

Sky might be a bit stressed out from the change, but that cage looks pretty nice and roomy! I'd put new paper down on the floor of the cage that is easy to see droppings on so that you can monitor for any more signs of blood in the stool, as well as examine Sky if he'll let you to check for any injury such as a broken feather or break in the skin. If he seems to be acting normal and healthy, and you don't see any more blood in the stool or on the body, wouldn't worry too much.

if the blood continues in the stool, a vet checkup to rule out issues such as parasites is always a good idea. If you see an injury on the body, stopping bleeding with styptic powder and then keeping the area clean and free of debris can help, however if you notice a broken blood feather or severe injury that isn't healing, having a vet take a look is best.

It's possible there could be something in her mouth or throat that has caused injury and bleeding, there is a GI issue causing her to bring up blood, or there is something in her nose/mouth such as a growth or tumor that has burst and is now bleeding. A complete exam is needed to try and find the underlying cause. If she is currently housed with other birds, it is a good idea to move her to a separate hospital cage that is kept warm and with easy access to food and water. This can help avoid having her get picked on by other birds and injured worse, and prevent the spread of any potentially contagious illnesses until she can be seen by a vet.

My bird has blood under its wing. Is it a blood feather? What's next?

I would very gently catch Sky and carefully check under her wings for any damage such as cuts. I imagine you won't find anything as like you say she has likely pulled out a blood feather. As long as you don't find anything I would don't monitor her for the next few days. If you find anything worrying I would have her checked by your vet.

Hello! I am sorry Sky had a problem passing her egg. In the photo it looks very possible that she has a prolapse and should see a vet. If left untreated a prolapse can dry out, bleed, and become infected. It can also make her unable to pass another egg. Why is my young bird bleeding under its tail when it gets scared?

Max shouldn't be bleeding just from moving around, and if it happens repeatedly in the same spot, or doesn't stop bleeding, I'd be concerned. It is a good idea to have him checked out by a local vet to make sure there isn't an injury there such as a broken blood feather, an abscess under the skin that is opening up when jostled, or a wound on the skin from parasites, stress picking or other injury. If he is bleeding at home, you can use something such as a little cornstarch to stop the bleeding, and then gently clean the area with a warm washcloth to remove any dirt or debris so you can check for wounds.
