My budgie bled a bit, but it stopped. Should I worry or see a vet?

If he is continually bleeding, then it's best to get him to a vet as soon as possible, because they can't afford to lose too much blood. If the bleeding has stopped and he is eating/drinking OK, then you can wait for 24 hours and see if there is any improvement with how he holds his wing. Sometimes they initially will hold it like this and it will shake due to the pain and not a fracture. If it doesn't seem better after a day, then I would get it checked out by a veterinarian to see if there is any serious damage. I hope that helps and Rainbow gets better soon.

Sky might be a bit stressed out from the change, but that cage looks pretty nice and roomy! I'd put new paper down on the floor of the cage that is easy to see droppings on so that you can monitor for any more signs of blood in the stool, as well as examine Sky if he'll let you to check for any injury such as a broken feather or break in the skin. If he seems to be acting normal and healthy, and you don't see any more blood in the stool or on the body, wouldn't worry too much. if the blood continues in the stool, a vet checkup to rule out issues such as parasites is always a good idea. If you see an injury on the body, stopping bleeding with styptic powder and then keeping the area clean and free of debris can help, however if you notice a broken blood feather or severe injury that isn't healing, having a vet take a look is best.

Ideally, she should be examined by your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating birds. If she is in with other birds, remove them to a different cage in case the injury was due to aggression. Check the cage for anything on which she could have injured herself. Monitor for lethargy, loose droppings or loss of appetite. These are symptoms that need to be addressed by a veterinarian.

If Sara is otherwise acting normal and the bleeding has completely stopped then I would not be too concerned. She most likely tore a toe nail and it caused the bleeding. Continue to monitor Sara for the next day or so. As long as the bleeding does not continue and she is eating well and otherwise acting like herself you should have nothing to worry about. Based on the pictures you provided it does appear that there is some hemorrhage under the skin of the eye. This is most likely related to trauma (ie hitting the eye/face on something). Keep an eye on it for now. If your bird is otherwise acting normal then I would not worry about it too much. If however the redness spreads or your bird seems painful you should probably take him in to be checked out by your veterinarian. I hope this helps. Thanks for reaching out about Buddy and including photos. This is evident of trauma, could this bird be getting scared in the cage and flying/hitting the cage bars? Decreasing stress will hopefully allow to calm down. If suspect injury or appears painful, a veterinary visit is recommended. Good luck.

You need to monitor her in the next 24 hours, check if she is eating, pooping and moving normally. If the bleeding has stopped there is nothing for you to do other tan the monitoring, if she doesn't seem herself after 24 hours- take her to the vet.
