When can I let my new parakeet out of its cage after taming?

How many days to tame my young parakeet and let him out of his cage? Because, I'm worried he will get sick or bored if I leave him in his cage alone. I got my parakeet 4 days ago.

In order for your bird to trust you you will need to work with him daily. If you are worried that he may fly away when you let him out of the cage you can clip his wings so he will not be able to fly. This is a completely painless procedure and the feathers will grow back if you decide at a later date to allow him to fly. This way you can let him out of the cage to explore but won’t have to worry about him getting away.

The more interaction you have with the bird the better. Offer him treats while you are working with him so he can start building some trust in you. I would assume that after a month or so of repeated interactions you bird will be much more comfortable with you.

You have to be patient. Some birds are not very social or have had bad experiences with people and it takes longer to get them tame. The longer you can sit still by his cage and wait for him to come out and explore, the better. He needs to gain some trust that you aren't going to hurt or eat him, and this can take many weeks/months with some birds. If you can leave the cage door open and try to tempt him with a fruit or veggie treat, he will eventually become curious and come out and visit.

It can take time for a bird to begin to trust you, especially if he's just recently been moved into a new home or environment. Try tossing a favorite treat into his cage every time you come by to visit, until he is more used to you. From there you can then start offering the treat from your hand, and gradually build trust.

Having a playpen or something your birds can rest on while out of the cage is a good idea. Also making sure they can get back into their cage for food and water (and to close it when you're ready for them to be back in) is also best. You may also want to have a bird net on hand to catch them if they aren't super tame and won't go back into their cage. Clipping wings can help make them easier to handle and catch, and if you are unsure how to do this, having a local vet show you before allowing them out and about is best. Making sure the room doesn't have any harmful objects such as fans, open windows, cooking items, etc is best to avoid injury to your birds. If there are sharp objects or things they could be injured on, removing them before allowing your birds out is best.

Patience is best when getting your budgie used to handling. If he has a favorite treat you can offer it every time you approach the cage or every time he sits up on your finger. Once he is comfortable there, you can begin to then offer treats after you pet him, to teach him that this is a rewarding behavior. It can take some time, and if your budgie is too stressed simply take a break and let him calm down a bit before trying again.

I am sorry to hear that your bird tried to escape. The good news is that the wings were clipped so he was unable to fly away. I would recommend continuing to keep the wings clipped to prevent him from escaping. It is important that when you get him out of his cage to interact with him that you make sure the area is secured with no open doors or windows. The more you get him out of the cage and interact with him the more used to it he will be and the less likely he will want to fly away. I would recommend having his wings trimmed every 1 to 2 months to prevent him from flying away. It may also be beneficial to train him to come to you for a treat so that, in the event of an escape, he will be trained to come back to you instead of wander off. I hope this helps. Time and patience! It can take several months for a bird to start trusting enough to want to hop on you or interact more. It sounds like you're on the right track already with offering food from your hand. I would continue to do this, and gradually increase to petting Sky, and then handling her more/asking her to perch. If she becomes too nervous, letting her calm down and trying again later is best.
