My finch is sick and lethargic. Did wet seeds cause it? Home remedies?

Weakness can have multiple causes, with infections being only one possibility. Provide heat support in the 80-85 F range can give some support. Finches eat primarily seed but also need a vitamin/mineral/protein support in the form of a wide variety of vegetables. Provide a soft bedding/towels on the bottom of the cage to protect if falls. There are no medications that can be prescribed over the internet. But providing heat support in the 80-85 degrees range, 24/7 might allow him to conserve some energy that he would normally use to heat himself. Remove perches and allow to stand on a flat soft surface (towel or blanket). Ensure that food and water are within easy reach. Using a small syringe without a needle, to offer water is very important. Go slow as to not allow aspiration into the lungs. Most pet stores sell baby bird hand rearing formulas, in an attempt to give calories. Still, a veterinary visit is best. Good luck.

If you think she is losing weight and malnourished then you should re-evaluate her diet. Birds do not do well on an all seed diet so, if seeds are the majority of her diet you need to change that. I suggest using Lafeber's foods. Being weak and lethargic, are only general signs of illness and are not specific for any particular problem. It is often difficult to differentiate between loose stool and polyuria (increased urine), as they often pass both at the same time. This must be examined as the birds passes a bowel movement to identify well formed feces. A loose stool can be the result of an intestinal infection, liver disease, ingested foreign body (particle, toxin, other) and more. Increased urination can be due to increased water intake (behavioral, kidney or liver disease, diabetes (rare), environmental stresses (heat, breeding season, change in diet). Providing supplemental heat in the 80-85 F range, 24/7 can sometimes support the immune system. If the weakness continues, a veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. Good luck.
