My conure has seizures and is lethargic. When should I see a vet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Conure | Female | 0.1 lbs

I have a 12yr old Nanday Conure. Has had seizures in past. Now sleeping all the time. Eating with closed eyes. Standing in food bowl. Not moving around cage. Falling sometimes. Doesn’t appear to be in pain. Trembling. Puffed up. She has had 3-4 seizures in the last year. Should I just keep her comfortable until she passes unless she appears to be in pain?

Thanks for reaching out about Harley. A veterinary visit is recommended in an attempt to determine the cause of the seizures. Many conditions can be treated or managed. At the minimum, anti-convulsive medications can improve quality of life.
Good luck.
