My cockatiel's poop is watery & smelly, but he seems healthy. Why?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Cockatiel | Male | unneutered | 18 years and 2 months old

My cockatiel has very watery, and smelly poops. We have him on a pellet diet and he seems healthy. He is also molting if that is relevant. Thank you so much.

Thanks for reaching out about Silva. Molting time is highly stressful and can lead to a diminished immune system, with possible secondary infections. Even though he appears healthy, a veterinary visit is recommended to examine him.
Smelly feces can result in a bacterial enteritis, liver disease and a few other causes.
Good luck.
