My cockatiel's bright green poop is normal consistency. Is he sick?

The droppings could be affected by his diet. If he is behaving normally otherwise, it may be normal. If Kiki is lethargic, has his feathers puffed out or has a decreased appetite, it could be cause for concern. You can always submit a sample to your veterinarian to diagnose intestinal parasites or bacterial overgrowth and have Kiki examined.

I'm sorry to hear Ophelia isn't doing well. If she's had any other signs of illness such as changes in eating and drinking habits (drinking less water), or seems listless, is losing weight, etc. I would be concerned that there is something underlying such as an illness, infection or even parasites which are also causing the stool changes. You didn't mention if you give her treats or have changed her diet, but sudden changes in diet or an excess of fruits and veggie treats can sometimes cause color and stool changes, which should resolve after getting used to the new food, or removing any extras other than her regular diet. Pellets in diets can also sometimes cause stool changes or color changes as well. If she is otherwise normal and healthy and you made this change, then giving it a day or two to see if it returns to normal may help. However, if the problem continues, she seems in distress, or you haven't made any changes, then having your vet take a look and bringing in a sample of Ophelia's stool to your vet for a fecal test is best to rule out more serious issues.

The urates are bright and white and the amount of urine is appropriate. I see what you mean about the difference in color - the lighter brown are less concerning to me than the darker colored ones. The reason for that is dark brown to black stools can be indicative of digested blood in the feces, also known as melena. In Pecker's case, with him being very new to you and you doing a diet switch (which is great, by the way - I recommend that budgies eat at least 50% pellets and then the rest of the diet can be made up of seed and produce items), I wouldn't worry too much because it may be due to the transition. However, if the dark stools continue, it would be advisable to take Pecker in for a wellness examination to have him (and his feces) evaluated. When you go, please make sure that you bring some of the dark feces, as your veterinarian can have it tested for occult (hidden) blood. They can also perform a thorough physical exam on him. Also, if anything about Pecker changes, including his attitude or appetite, this would also be reason to go into a veterinarian sooner rather than later. I would recommend regular weighing for him as well - you can do this by using a perch on top of a digital gram scale (found in the kitchen section of most department stores). I would recommend doing this 3 times per week. This will allow you to ensure he is not getting chunky or losing weight for some reason! Good luck with your new pet!

Thanks for reaching out about Susi and including photos. Other diseases can cause greenish stool, anything that affects liver function. AS you probably know, psittacosis is zoonotic. Veterinarians can sometimes have access to injectable doxycycline, since won't take orally. Gavage feeding the medications and food could also be beneficial and a veterinarian can assist with the technique. You might have to travel further is an avian veterinarian is not in your vicinity, as this bird sounds critical. Good luck.

He needs to be seen by a veterinarian if he is ill. Providing a warm environment, simulating a warm incubator, could give aid, but a veterinary visit is warranted. Without knowing what the clinical signs are for the illness, can not give any other advice. Good luck.

Thanks for reaching out about Gigi and Villi and including a photo. Green feces could be the result of the green food but also in common with liver disease. One mild concern would be a condition call chlamydophilosis, which can also be communicable to other birds and people. A veterinary visit is recommended anyways for any new acquisitions, and this disease should be tested. Monitor for now but see a veterinarian if the condition persists. Good luck.
