Why is my cockatiel so vocal after being around other birds?

Cockatiels are extremely vocal birds, so it may just be that Cici is excited and very "talkative". Giving him some fun things to do such as adding in an enriching toy that requires concentration to open or play with, playing soothing music, or even moving him to a quieter location free of other pets and people may help him to settle down some. If he is housed with another bird, there could be competition over perches, food and water dishes which is causing stress, so adding extra in and making sure there is enough room for both birds may help. If he does continue screaming, or seems ill or painful in addition, a vet visit is always a good idea to rule out any pain or underlying health issues.

Thanks for reaching out about Ahmer. If she was a hand-fed baby, maybe she associates people with feeding, and is hungry, not completely weaned. Do you see her eating, are feces present? Does she quiet when someone enters the room? Birds are very social and often don't feel comfortable when left alone. She might just need time to adjust. Since the birds are new to you (and I am assuming new to each other) they are probably a little stressed and taking time to adjust to their new surroundings. Also, since they are new to you, this may be completely normal behavior for them. You may want to try separating them and see if that helps. If they are eating and drinking well, do not appear to be injured and are having normal excrement then I would not be too concerned. Hi, and thank you for this question, Two weeks are not always enough to train a bird. Most cockatiels don't speak at all, some will imitate noises but will usually not speak. As to perching on a shoulder or a hand, if the bird was not hand-fed at as a baby it may not be adjusted to humans at all, and may never get really tame. If it is tame and just doesn't want to perch on you, try offering rewards (treats) when he does.

If your cockatiel was not hand tamed then she may be less social and not as handleable. It will take a lot of time and patience to get her hand tame. Try using treats and just leaving your hand in there until she is more used to you. You can find video,guides online for,hand taming your bird. Some birds never tame up and are always less social, but with patience many will come around. Good luck to you!

It sounds like Cheeko may just be excited and enjoys getting out and exploring. Singing and chirping can be signs that he's enjoying his time. Offering some fun toys to play with and safe things to explore may help encourage this behavior. As for things to give when he does something you like, a favorite treat such as a piece of fruit (apple or strawberry slices are always favorites, or even a piece of lettuce or spinach!) can reward him. You can also find many commercial bird treats at your local pet store that are safe to give.
