Cockatiel inhaled sewage: How to help her recover and when to see vet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

My pet cockatiel has been exposed to inhaling sewage backup. I have removed my cockateil from the situation however she is a bit off balance and her chirp is not as strong as usual. How long will she take to recover and do I need to take any extra steps to help return her to health?

I'm sorry but there is no way for me to give you a time frame on this. It depends on many factors. I'm glad you removed her from the situation but all you can do at this point is monitor her. I would say if her symptoms last longer than 24 hours she should see an avian vet.
