Should I worry about my cockatiel's flaky beak and orange nostrils?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Cockatiel | Female | unspayed | 1 year old | 1lb

My cockatiel just turned one today and I noticed her beak is flake and her nostrils are a bright orange color, is this some ting to be worried about?

Thanks for reaching out about Topaz. Happy Birthday. Flaking of the beak is usually a sign of normal wear and tear. Bright orange nostrils are unusual but could this be food residues? Any breathing difficulty or significant sneezing should be investigated by a veterinarian.
Good luck.
