Should I clip my bird's wings in winter or wait until spring?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Conure | Male | 9 months and 17 days old

My bird needs his wings clipped again. I was just wondering if it’s really necessary to have them clipped now because it is now winter? Can it wait until Spring when it’s warmer to take him out? I just don't want to risk him getting sick.

Thanks for reaching out about Rico. Wings need to be trimmed to provide safety. If Rico is allowed to fly around the house, can still get into trouble. Trimming wings do not correlate with health or illness, except in reduced exercise.
Good luck.
