Is it safe to use caulk or silicone near my canary? How to ventilate?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male | unneutered

Is it OK to use Acrylic Latex Caulking, plus Silicone, about 15 feet away from a Canary? One Stove Fan on, to get odors, etc., outside, and back door open. If so, how long do I leave door open and Fan on? Our house is only 1100 sq. ft., so really no place very far from Ringo to put him. Thanks!

Hi and thank you for your question,
From your question it is clear that you are aware of the risks of exposing birds to various fumes and aerosols. There is no way of giving you an accurate answer without doing all sorts of tests and measurements. However, the rule of the thumb is - if YOU can smell it - it is bad for the bird. Sometimes even if you can't.. Try finding a different place for Ringo while using these substances (outdoors, stairway, balcony etc.)
