Is it safe for my bird during house painting? How long away?
Hello. There really is not enough information to totally recommend removing your bird from your home, especially if a low volatile latex paint is used. But, I think it is a very good idea since you have someone to watch the bird for you. It is not just the paint fumes that need to be considered, but any dust kicked up from the cleaning & preparation of the walls. This is really important if there is any possibility of lead based paint in the house. I would keep Rico out of your home for a full 3 days after the painting is done making sure the whole house is well ventilated. This might be a little overkill, but better safe than sorry. Also, make sure your friend knows exactly how to care for your bird, & that the room conditions are the same as in your home. Good luck & thanks for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
