My canary's beak is dark and peeling. Is this normal after molting?

If you're seeing any signs of illness, bruising, pain, changes in eating habits, etc, then it could indicate the beak was injured and should be checked out by a local vet.

The beak grows from the base and deep, therefore outer layers at the end of the beak are the oldest and last to wear off. As the keratin thins, the keratin becomes more clear. Keep monitoring. Injuries to the beak may cause bruising or discoloration, malnutrition or other illnesses may also cause beak color changes. If you're seeing discoloration or growth on the beak itself or Rj is acting ill (not wanting to eat or drink, trouble breathing or eating, listless behavior, etc) in addition to the change, it would be smart to have a vet take a look to rule out any issues such as a bacterial or fungal infection causing it.
