When is it safe for budgies to return to a room after carpet cleaning?

That will depend on the type of paint you are using. If the paint is odorless latex paint (you specified odorless paint), then you can wait until it is dry and move your bird back in once the paint is completely dry (which can take a few days). If you are using solvent-based paint then you will have to wait until the solvent has disappeared completely , so your bird will not inhale it , and this can take a week or longer. Best check with the paint manufacturer of your specific paint.

Hello. There really is not enough information to totally recommend removing your bird from your home, especially if a low volatile latex paint is used. But, I think it is a very good idea since you have someone to watch the bird for you. It is not just the paint fumes that need to be considered, but any dust kicked up from the cleaning & preparation of the walls. This is really important if there is any possibility of lead based paint in the house. I would keep Rico out of your home for a full 3 days after the painting is done making sure the whole house is well ventilated. This might be a little overkill, but better safe than sorry. Also, make sure your friend knows exactly how to care for your bird, & that the room conditions are the same as in your home. Interview cleaners and let them know you have birds. Ask what products they use, and if they are safe around birds. More than likely, you will have to take the birds out of the house while the carpets being cleaned, and bring them back in when the carpets are dried. You could board them with a vet during this time, and that way, they would be safe. Once the carpets are fully dry, it's safe to bring them back home.

Often we'll see respiratory distress within the first hour. So, if he's still acting completely fine, you're probably in the clear. However, I'd recommend making sure he's in a well-ventilated non-stressful environment and keep a close eye on him for the rest of the day. Hope this helps!

I would wait at least 30 minutes after the room has been treated before letting him in the room (crated or not). The fumes can be harmful. I do not know what product your exterminator is going to be using so it is difficult to give you any further information.

If they are just in your home exploring you can leave their cage door open and they will go back for food and water on their own when they feel they need it. Keeping them in the same room as their cage may help get them used to getting back to it, or you can coax them back with a favorite treat. I would not recommend letting them fly around freely outside, especially if there are wild birds, as this can transmit illness, or lead to injury.

I'm sorry but there is no way for me to give you a time frame on this. It depends on many factors. I'm glad you removed her from the situation but all you can do at this point is monitor her. I would say if her symptoms last longer than 24 hours she should see an avian vet.
