My budgie has a red blister on its leg. Is it an injury or infection?

They can get these with injury or disease of the nostrils. If it's just an injury, then it will start going down within a week. If it's something else like an infection, then it will grow or look wose. It is not too dangerous right now, but best to have an avian vet exam within the next day or two. They can help determine if it's serious or not.

I am concerned that your lovebird has an infection in the foot or in the joints of the foot. Sometimes if the infection becomes severe can spread into the bone which makes it very painful and more difficult heal. I would recommend taking your bird to be examined by your veterinarian. She may need to do x-rays to determine the extent of the infection and see if it has traveled into the bone. Your bird will likely need to be put on an antibiotic for a while to help clear up the infection as well. Your veterinarian can also prescribe pain medication so your lovebird can be more comfortable while the infection is healing. I hope this helps. I can't see the white blisters clearly, it could be mites but it could also be a medical condition called gout which is an accumulation of uric acid in the joints (very painful condition). you can try to treat Elsa for mites first, there is either a spray or a spot on- both should be available over the counter. if this isn't helping you will need to take him to an avian vet specialist ASAP.

Although a picture of it would help to determine the underlying cause more specifically, that is likely to be due to a mild to moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to an infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well. Thanks for reaching out about Blu. What did it get bit by? If a mammal or open wounds, probably needs to see a veterinarian, at least for antibiotics. But also possible foot fracture and/or pain medications. Provide heat support due to cold weather. Good luck.

If you could upload a photo of your entire bird from the side with his legs visible and a close-up photo of the leg in question we can look at it and attempt to find out what is going on. It would also help to know for how long he has had this condition.
