My budgie's feet feel warm on my finger. Is this normal for them?

That is how cockatiels normally sleep. They will also rest on one leg. There is no cause for concern at this positioning. A bird's body temperature is a bit higher than human body temp thus they will always feel warm to us. Monitor for lethargy, sitting with a wide stance and feathers fluffed out, decreased appetite or very loose droppings. These are all symptoms of illness.

If Meenu is not acting ill this may be normal for her. Birds are not great at regulating their body temperature when they are young. She will feel hotter or colder at times based on the ambient temperature. I would not be overly concerned but if you are, you should take her to an avian vet for an examination. It could just be the legs are warm, especially if Peko is acting otherwise normal and healthy. If you are noticing swelling or discoloration of the legs, there appears to be an injury, or other sides of illness, then it is possible there could be something wrong with the legs, such as an injury or infection that should be checked out by a vet. Moving Peko to a hospital cage that is kept warm and with low, flat perches and shallow food and water dishes can help make it easier for him to get around until you can be seen by your vet.

Birds can hold their wings away from the body if they are warm, but it can also happen if they are having trouble breathing or are in pain. Since the other bird in your picture doesn't seem puffed up/panting as if it were warm, it may indicate that Totto isn't feeling well. Since you mentioned you aren't there daily, it is best to see if a worker at the retirement home can monitor her for changes/improvements. Keep an eye on her. If she will allow, you can clean it daily with a mild antiseptic cleanser. Provide perches of different shapes, textures and thicknesses to condition her feet. Having only round perches of one size can lead to sores on the feet and overgrown nails.

Without any other info it would be hard to say if this is normal or not for Coco. It could just be her way of interacting or stretching. If she is otherwise healthy and acting normal, eating, drinking, etc, I would just keep an eye on her and try to see if the behavior is related to something she is doing or seeing. If she is showing any signs of illness in addition to the behavior, or is having trouble standing or perching on her feet, a vet visit is best.
