My budgie nibbles my neck and fingers. Is it normal or concerning?

Yes! This is good behavior. They are bonding. When birds become good friends, they will tap their beaks together in a kind of ‘budgie kiss’, and will preen each other’s face and head. There is nothing to worry about here. Best wishes.

It isn't common, but it can happen. If it happens again, ignore the behavior or gently distract him with a toy or piece of food. Avoid petting or scratching his back or under the wings and do not "beak wrestle" with him. These are all courting behaviors.

Thanks for reaching out. Birds need to be trained just like dogs, so desensitizing to toughing they don't accept will potentially work. Start with the contact he accepts,and continue this. If he is getting new feathers in that area of the body, that could be a reason for him to preen in the neck area. If, however, he begins to lose feathers and you aren't seeing new feathers coming in/ you are seeing bald areas of skin then this could be a sign of a problem (such as mites/parasites) that require veterinary attention. If your bird had a bath today that could be another reason for his extra grooming habits today.

He's likely curious and "exploring". Your hand and finger with his beak. Continue to train him to perch, rewarding him after each session. Keep sessions short to maintain his focus. Try for several sessions a day if you can.

Behavioral training might help deter abnormal grooming. Not all birds get along, and as they become sexually mature, relationships can change. Providing additional toys, perches, multiple food and water bowls and hiding areas can aid in the feeling of security for individuals. One of the problems of a cage is that animals can't escape and fly away. Providing hiding areas and "private areas" that each animal can identify as theirs, can establish zones. If the co-habitation becomes aggressive, two cages might be needed. Not all birds get along. Good luck.
