My budgie has a dark spot on its upper beak. Should I be worried?

Poor Harley! Some things can cause a dark spot to appear on the beak, such as a bruise from an injury (flying into a window or other hard surface) and sometimes from nutrient deficiencies. Making sure Harley is on a balanced diet of seed and pellets appropriate for budgies (most pet stores will carry these) may help. Bruises will usually resolve on their own, however, If you think Harley may have been injured, or the dark spot spreads/peels/worsens, then having your vet examine her is best.

Thank you for your question, and thank you for the photo - I can see what you are talking about with the lump. It looks to me to be at the commissure (corner) of the mouth. The lump looks to be a bit crusty. There are a few things that this could be - there may be material stuck to the area or a tissue growth. The material may be food, or it could be exudate (material that is produced from infectious organisms such as bacterial infection). It would be less likely to be a growth based on Cody's age, but there still is a possibility that it could be a benign or malignant mass. I would recommend trying to clean the area to see if anything comes off of it, and if it does, please look at the skin underneath to see if it is intact or if there is any kind of blood or injury underneath. If there is injury or if the material does not come off, then I would recommend taking Cody to a veterinarian. They can perform an examination and make recommendations based on what is found. If they suspect it is an infection, they may recommend performing blood work or starting on a course of antibiotics. If it is a mass, they may recommend taking a sample of it to evaluate under the microscope. Thanks for reaching out about Foring and including a photo. This appears to be a pigmentation change and might be associated with molting. Recommendations are to monitor for thickening, if appears to be bothering her, a veterinary visit should be scheduled. Application of pure aloe vera in a thin layer can provide some anti-inflammatory treatment and should be safe if a little is ingested. Good luck.

Any other animals that could have possible harmed her, other birds or cats? Monitor appetite and activity. If lesion grows or Dawn becomes weak or stops eating, a veterinary visit is recommended. Thanks for reaching out about Kukoo and including photos. It is also difficult to identify the brown areas you refer to. Nasal discharge is common, leaving dried accumulations. Nasal staining can also occur due to air quality. An air filter could help. Do you offer bathing for your budgies? If you notice sneezing or respiratory problems, a veterinary visit should be scheduled. Good luck.

I would not worry about it unless the bleeding persists. It could have been a mild injury or trauma to a feather follicle. As long as he is acting normally I would just monitor it. If it continues to bleed or looks worse at any time then get him to your vet for an exam.

Based on the pictures you provided it does appear that there is some hemorrhage under the skin of the eye. This is most likely related to trauma (ie hitting the eye/face on something). Keep an eye on it for now. If your bird is otherwise acting normal then I would not worry about it too much. If however the redness spreads or your bird seems painful you should probably take him in to be checked out by your veterinarian. I hope this helps.
