Why does my budgie bob head, twitch, and raise feathers? Is it normal?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Female | unspayed

Good Afternoon, I have a question concering about my budgie, out of the blue she'll bob her head harshly, and her body begins to move or more so twitch I believe, then the tiny feathers on her head raise. What does this mean? and is it an mental health issue?

That just sounds like a relaxation behavior or possibly adjusting the food in her crop, and is very normal. As long as Juno is otherwise healthy, active, and happy, I would not be too concerned. If she shows any signs of illness in addition to this, seems in distress, or does it constantly without stopping, seeking a vet exam in person is always best.
