My budgie ate fuzz and is throwing up. Should I take him to the vet?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Parakeet | Male | unneutered | 0 lbs

My budgie has found a small piece of fuzz. Before I could get it away from him, he flew away with it. I was unable to tell if he ingested it, but a few minutes later he made the motion of throwing up, which I had never seen him do before. I know ingesting foreign bodies is incredibly dangerous, so is there any action I should take?

Thanks for reaching out about Chicken. If he is still regurgitating, a veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. Foreign bodies in the crop are easier to remove than in the lower gastrointestinal tract. Monitor appetite. Providing heat support in the 80-85 F range can provide some aid.
Good luck.
