My bird seems unhappy. What are signs and how to enrich its life?

It's always difficult to assess any animals level of happiness, but I can definitely tell you that this bird does not seem unhappy. The humping and regurgitation (puking) tell me that Toetie is very comfortable in his environment and has formed a bond with you. Also, he appears rather healthy from the pictures you've submitted. I think the most important things to keep a bird happy are supplying good enrichment and as much space as you can possibly give. Enrichment can be as simple as letting the bird out of the cage, interacting with the bird, or giving toys. I understand that he does not seem to be interested in toys, so it may take some experimenting to find out which ones he may like. I have found that the best enrichment can be achieved by making the bird work for its food. There are plenty of toys for sale that you can hide food in and the bird has to either solve a puzzle or dismantle it to get the prize. I used to feed my parrot most of his food this way and it really helped to keep him from getting too bored when I was away during the day. This is not easy, because you would have to ensure they get along before putting them together. Also, you should understand that a bird will always prefer the company of another bird, rather than a human. So, giving him a mate may make him less likely to interact with you or other people. Their social state has a large weight on their wellbeing, so you should keep an eye out for any finches that have feather loss due to feather picking or are being excluded from the group. Noticed you posted twice so I'm reposting my answer her to make sure you get it. It's possible Kicolina might be wishing for a mate. If she seems down, adding in a toy that she can snuggle against such as a soft nest or preening toy, or even adding in one of the little "fake" parakeets that sing may help her feel a bit more comfortable. Interacting together and offering her some favorite treats may also help. If she continues to act depressed, or shows any signs of illness, a vet checkup is always a good idea to rule out any health issues.

Without knowing the size of the cage, it is hard to give advice. If they have a large flight cage where they can easily move around and exercise, then that may be enough. Adding in some fun toys to explore, moving dishes and toys around or rotating them out, offering treats to chew on, etc can all help increase enrichment and make things more fun for your birds. If they're kept in very small cages, then looking for a playpen that can fit in the room or on top of the cage may be nice for your birds to climb on or play on. However, finches tend to explore more and may want to fly around, so it is best to make sure they are only let loose in rooms where they can easily be caught again and cannot fly into windows, doors, or other dangerous objects that can cause injury or death.

It sounds like Lily may be a bit bored or wants to get out and explore. Adding some enrichment to her cage, such as puzzle toys she can chew on for a treat or something she can snuggle and preen may help redirect the behavior to safer items and give her some more enrichment. If you're able, letting her have some time out of her cage such as on a cage-top play pen, or in a safe room interacting with you can help give her some extra enrichment as well.

Kiki may be bored, stressed or ill. Provide more interaction and attention if possible. Birds are flock animals and although some are fine alone, others may need "company". This extra attention could be from human or avian companionship. Rearrange the cage to provide enrichment. Switch out old toys for new toys, provide different sized perches and offer a variety of foods for him to forage. Monitor for lethargy, loss of appetite, loose droppings or sitting quietly with eyes closed and feathers puffed out. These can be signs of illness requiring an exam with an experienced avian veterinarian.
