My birds are sleepier than usual. Is this normal or a health concern?

Just shutting the eyes/sleeping is a very vague sign, so it would be hard to say. It may just be she is relaxing and taking a nap if she only does it on her perch and is otherwise happy, active, eating and drinking, etc. If she seems to sleep all the time, isn't interested in food or water as much, has visible signs of illness, or is puffed up all the time, then these can indicate possible illness. Keeping her eating and drinking, watching for any signs of illness and making sure she is in a stress-free and not too warm or too cold environment can help, however if you see signs of illness or are concerned about her health, scheduling a vet visit in person is always best.

It could be that is just how your parrot fell asleep, which can be normal. If he is showing any signs of illness while awake, such as a head tilt then, refusal to eat, listless behavior, etc, then this is cause for concern and should be checked out by a vet.

If your lovebird is suddenly very lethargic, you should have her seen by a vet. She might have an infection or other illness that needs treating. Birds are good at hiding illness, so once they look sick,they are often so much sicker than you think. Please get her seen by a vet to figure out what might be going on.

Hi! Sleeping with head bent down or under a wing can be normal. However, if Prince is more lethargic and sleeping more than normal, I would agree that he could be sick with an infection or some other illness. therefore, I would recommend you take him to see a veterinarian since birds can get seriously ill very fast. It might be that he's not actually completely asleep, or he's just having a good dream! If he's otherwise healthy, active and normal, I wouldn't be too concerned. However, if you are seeing any signs of illness while he is awake such as lethargy, puffed feathers, not wanting to eat or drink, trouble breathing, etc, then this may be a sign there is something underlying which should be checked out by a vet.

Unfortunately, lethargy/sleepiness is a very vague symptom that may just indicate she isn't feeling well, but not what is causing her to feel that way. A good step would be to bring her to the vet, especially if you note any other signs of illness such as changes in weight, acting listless even when you're not interacting with her, not eating or drinking, stool changes, etc. If she checks out healthy, or seems normal and healthy otherwise when you aren't trying to pet her, it could just be that Pidgey is getting more used to you, and is actually enjoying your touch enough to relax and rest around you. This can be a good sign of bonding! However, if she seems ill or you are concerned, a vet appointment in person is best.

If April is doing this more frequently than usual or during the day it may be a sign of illness. Birds will sleep more fluff their feathers and hide their heads when they are feeling unwell. I would suggest finding an avian veterinarian For April.
