My bird is sick, food goes right through, and has an eye infection.

My pet bird (Red. Vented Bulbul), age = 2 yrs, is sick. Whatever it eats gets excreted. It has infections near the eye (picture). Sits in a dark place. Looks tired. Please help.

I'm sorry your bird isn't doing well. If he is unable to digest food and now has an infection or growths, it would be best to have him checked out by your vet in person. Infections internally, GI issues, organ dysfunction, parasites, etc can all be possible causes to not digesting food properly, and having any new growths looked at is best.

In the meantime, keeping him eating, drinking and keeping any wounds or affected areas clean can help, as well as making sure he is separated from any other birds to prevent the spread of illness.

Due to the number of symptoms you listed, it would be best to seek veterinary care ASAP to have your bird examined. Birds are excellent at hiding illness, and if he is showing this many signs of illness, he is likely ill and will need to be treated. Infections from yeast, bacteria or fungus can cause problems with the mouth or crop, as well as parasites or other illnesses which can affect the GI tract as well leading to the symptoms seen in his mouth and stool. Your vet may recommend additional tests such as bloodwork to help narrow down the issue.

Until you can get to the vet, separating him from any other birds into a hospital cage that is kept warm with easy access to food and water may help, but ultimately an exam is needed to figure out the issue and solve it.

Thanks for reaching out about Ibruz and including photos. These clinical signs of illness but are general and not specific for any particular disease. A veterinary visit needs to be arranged to assist with a diagnostics/treatment plan, as different conditions are treated with different medications/procedures. The key is early diagnosis to improve outcome. Try offering food and water via a syringe, in small amount to decrease chance of regurgitation. Good luck.

My bird is vomiting everything and getting worse. What should I do?

Thanks for reaching out about Fandogh and including images. Anti-emetic (anti-vomiting) medications can be given by injection, so might reduce/stop regurgitation, that can then allow oral medications to be given. Subcutaneous fluids might have to be given to maintain hydration. Were follow up radiographs taken after the initial ones? A gastrointestinal foreign body must still be considered. Good luck.

Unfortunately, those are symptoms that need to be seen in person by a vet, because they are not possible to diagnose over the internet. If multiple of your birds are having loose stools and are housed together, I would be concerned there is something going on such as a contagious illness, parasites, nutritional issue, or unclean environment. Treating for parasites and making sure all birds have access to fresh food and water and a clean environment may help. Separating out any sick birds until they recover may also help. If the problem continues, your bird(s) worsen, or they do not improve with home treatment, then you will need to find a vet in your area that can take a look at them and determine the problem.

My parrot is sick, not eating, and has white poop. What should I do?

Thanks for reaching out and including a photo. This is not diarrhea but a lack of feces, and only consists of urates, so he is not eating. Providing heat support in the 80-85 F range can give aid. A veterinary visit is needed to provide some diagnostics (radiographs, blood work) to determine a diagnosis and then treatment plan. Start syringe feeding as soon as possible. Good luck.

Vomiting and nasal discharge in birds can be a sign of bacterial or fungal infections, toxin ingestion, as well as damage to the crop (the area that stores food in the esophagus). I recommend having your bird seen by a vet as soon as possible to determine the underlying cause, provide stabilization and treatment as necessary.
