What are the risks of having a salt lamp near my bird's cage?

Studies done on these lamps show that they really don't do much more than a normal lamp, so it's unlikely to harm you or your dog. There have also not been any reported problems with these lamps around pets. In-fact, the salt would even be safe if Doobie happened to lick it, but I don't recommend that. It's not safe in that LuLu could lick the salt lamp, and too much salt is toxic to dogs. If you want to use one in a room where she is sleeping, make sure it is placed up high where she cannot have access to it. I hope this helps.

Aerosol is bad for birds, but only if it's used in close-quarters. If you are in a separate room when using the product and the door stays closed, then there is little to no chance it will be a problem for your bird.

Both of these substances in large quantities can be harmful to birds. Salt is definitely more dangerous however and should be generally avoided. Sugar is not truly toxic but is definitely not recommended as part of the diet for a parrot.

I do not recommend the use of essential oils in the presence (ie the same room) of parakeets or any other birds. There are some oils that are toxic (such as tea tree oil) and others that may not be, however toxicity often depends on the concentration of the oil and while an oil may not causing toxic signs in one bird, it may in another more sensitive bird. There is no way to know other than trying it out, and , honestly, I would not risk my bird's health just to find out which oil does not harm him and which one does. If you use essential oils outside of Garcia's room, there should not be a problem.
