My baby cockatiel is lethargic and drooping after vitamins. Help!

A more fluffed up appearance is usually symptomatic of high temperature which can cause lethargy as well. High temperature is usually caused by an infection which is very often of respiratory origin. A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed. He should be examined by your veterinarian or by a veterinarian experienced in treating birds. Lethargy, chronic regurgitation and loss of balance would be serious symptoms in a young bird. Given Tweety's age, he should be seen as soon as you can get an appointment. Birds are very good at hiding illness or injury until it is quite serious. In the meantime, keep him warm and as stress free as possible until he sees the vet. Do not allow him to fly and remove or lower perches to prevent injury from falls. Consider feeding a commercial handfeeding formula temporarily or soaked commercial pellets to get some food into him.

I'm sorry to hear Coko isn't feeling well. If he's acting ill and isn't wanting to eat or drink in addition to losing feathers, it is best to seek veterinary care ASAP. There are many possible causes for his symptoms including illness, infections, parasites, malnutrition, etc, and a complete exam in person is needed to help determine the cause. In the meantime, keeping him warm in a hospital cage separated from other birds, and continuing to give him food and water may help, but a vet visit is best.

Sounds like you need to take him to your veterinarian due to the behavior and clinical signs that you are describing. Your vet can perform a physical exam and then advise some tests to try to determine what is going on. They can run some quick tests in house such as a fecal wet mount and fecal smear to evaluate the organisms present. Birds can get something called AGY or Avian Gastric Yeast which can cause these types of problems. Also foreign bodies can be ingested even if the bird is caged constantly from toys, cage covers, etc. A cloacal swab can be obtained and sent out as well as bloodwork and x-rays. Once all of the tests are completed, a sound treatment plan can be put into place. So Sorry you are experiencing this problem with Baby. Good Luck

Hi, Your bird may be mourning the loss of his cage mate. However, I am also worried that whatever caused the passing of the cage mate may have been infectious and could be affecting your remaining bird. An exam by your veterinarian would be the best course of action to be sure there isn’t an illness at play.
